Local Infrastructure Planning Receives a Boost in Surrey

Date: Wednesday 31/03/10

The Surrey Infrastructure Capacity Project is undertaking key work to support the development of District and Borough infrastructure delivery plans, which underpin Local Development Frameworks.

The focus of phase two of the Surrey Infrastructure Capacity Project has shifted from strategic to local infrastructure. A set of milestones has been agreed to assess/ benchmark progress towards completion of infrastructure delivery plans by the end of June 2010:

1. By 31 December 2009 – each local planning authority to identify commitments from existing programmes.
2. By 28 February 2010 – consider local governance / partnership arrangements and how authorities are working together on community development.
3. By 30 April 2010 – each local planning authority should have made good progress on a baseline of existing facilities and condition.
4. By 30 June 2010 – each local planning authority should have made an assessment of future requirements, through discussions with key providers such as PCT, emergency services and County Council services.

These milestones can either be worked on sequentially or simultaneously. Progress to date has been good with almost all Surrey authorities achieving milestone one, and nearly all authorities have committed to holding a Local Strategic Partnership session working on governance around infrastructure planning. Some have already taken place, with others scheduled to do so in the near future.
